I am moving to a Droid phone and want to play my music on it.

I have unsuccessfully tried trials of SoundTaxi and MovAudio3 -- I will purchase which ever one works first.

SoundTaxi reports attempts to decode a song but fails with "Please make sure that the file has a valid playback license". In iTunes the song fails to play until I re-enter my password. SoundTaxi still can't convert it - it just causes iTunes to prompt me over again.

MovAudio3 fails to conver the same song with "iTunes 7.7.1 or greater is required to convert this file." I am using iTunes 9.0.2.25.

I am on Win7 64 bit.

We have identified an issue with the current version not detecting iTunes being installed in certain cases. We have a test version, http://www.muvenum.com/downloads/muvaud ... -v3011.exe that should resolve this issue.

Please let me know your results.

Thanks for the prompt response. This failed with the same error. Most of my music is in m4p format. I did find a song that was in m4a format and that converted OK. I don't see m4p explicitly listed as supported -- is it not supported? or are there other steps I need to do?

I turned on 'logging' under settings but it didn't write anything interesting to the log file.

Thanks,

Hrm, this is strange.

Are you running an English language version of Windows?

Are you familiar with the Windows registry? If so, I'd like you to open regedit and look for the following keys and tell me if they exist and what the "Data" value is:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AAX\shell\open\command
Name: (Default)

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\DefaultIcon
Name: (Default)

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\open\command
Name: (Default)

If none of the keys above exist, please do a search of your registry fro itunes.exe and let me know the keys that it displays in for you.

Finally, tell me if either of these two files exist on your computer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe
C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe

I've created a sample program that will report whether iTunes is detected based on the way MuvAudio detects it.

You can download it from http://www.muvenum.com/downloads/muvaud ... tected.zip. To run it, just double-click the IsItunesDetected.exe file (you can do this directly from the zip file). It will state either "iTunes is detected." or "iTunes is not detected." Below that it will have a bunch of text/numbers. Please post that text into a reply post.

Please let me know what it says and from there I can further improve the detection based on your results.

Thank you for your help,

As noted on the filetypes tab, some files may not show up in this list even though they are supported through plugins. iTunes files are this way including the filetypes you mentioned. .M4P is supported through the playback/record method while .M4A files can be converted directly.

The tool reports "iTunes is detected
1
1.1
1.2
1.3
1.5
"
(no 1.4, if that matters).

My machine: I had installed iTunes to C:, but then uninstalled it and installed it to F:. My C: is a small-ish solid-state drive for the OS and core-apps, and F: is a much bigger harddrive that also has my iTunes library on it.

I don't have a 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AAX\shell\open\command', but I have an "ex" version: 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AAX\shellex\open\command".

This my registry export:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax]
"Content Type"="audio/vnd.audible.aax"
"PerceivedType"="audio"
@="AAX"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax\OpenWithList]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax\OpenWithProgIds]
@=""
"iTunes.aax"=hex:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax\shellex]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax\shellex\{00021500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
@="{16148659-720A-457d-850B-2DBD87BB129D}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aax\shellex\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{16148659-720A-457d-850B-2DBD87BB129D}"

and

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe]
@="iTunes Music Player"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\DefaultIcon]
@="F:\\Program Files (x86)\\iTunes\\iTunes.exe,-128"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell]
@="play"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\open]
@="&Open"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\open\command]
@="\"F:\\Program Files (x86)\\iTunes\\iTunes.exe\" /open \"%L\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\play]
@="&Play"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\play\command]
@="\"F:\\Program Files (x86)\\iTunes\\iTunes.exe\" /play \"%L\""

I assume once the app detects iTunes it will automatically use the playback/record method (I didn't see how to manual set it after a quick look at the 2.0 online docs).

Hope that helps - thanks

Ok - the update you pushed recently fixed it for my system.

I've gone ahead and purchased.

The only issue so far is that my default (win7 x64) audio output device is SPDIF. Converting m4p files via the audio driver switched my system wide audio output device to the audio cable. Once I figured out I needed to reconfigure my system back to using SPDIF all was well. Not a big issue for me but might confuse others in the future.

Glad to hear it resolved it.

For the other issue:

Under the Options->Troubleshooting tab, does the default audio device show the SPDIF as the default? If so, when conversion completes does it set the audio playback device to that device?

Thanks,
