MuvEnum Address Bar Features:
- Auto-completion is supported. This means that when you are typing something in the address bar, the auto-completion list will popup and show you items you've loaded before in Windows Explorer, your enabled browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox 3.x, Google Chrome), and the MuvEnum Address Bar that start with what you have typed and allow you to select them using your mouse or by toggling through the results using the tab or up and down arrow keys. The Tab key is supported in version v3.0.0.0 and higher.
- Websites can be opened from the address bar by typing in the url of the website and hitting enter. If you type something that you'd like to search the internet for, when the auto-completion list pops up, use the arrow keys to highlight the option titled Search for to open your default search engine to the search results for the typed keywords.
|
If the MuvEnum Address Bar can't detect your default search engine, it will default to searching Google. |
|
To quickly clear the text in the address bar, hit the Escape key. |
- Programs and files can be opened from the address bar by typing in the path of the program or file. As you type, the auto-completion feature will help you quickly get to the path or file you were looking for.
- Browser Favorites/Bookmarks can be opened from the address bar by typing in the name of the favorite and hitting enter. For example, if you had a favorite for your web-based email and called it email, you could type email into the address bar and hit enter and it would then open up that site in your default browser. Your favorites will be shown in the auto-completion list.
- Desktop Items are supported and allow you to quickly access files and folders on your desktop by their name. These will be shown in the auto-completion list.
- Special Folders are supported and allow you to quickly access special system folders. We've added support for both the XP and Vista naming conventions so you can type either name in the address bar to access the special folders.
These will be shown in the auto-completion list. *"Desktop", "Documents",
"Pictures", "Music", and "Favorites" will expand the auto-completion list to
show the files in that folder when the \ character is typed.
- Quick Search Aliases are supported. This feature allows you to specify an alias for quickly opening a search website based on the search keywords you specify. Example: you have a search alias of g for google.com. To search google.com for something, in the address bar, you would type "g keywords" (without the quotes). This would then open your default browser to google.com with the results for your search term. MuvEnum
Address Bar reads from the settings that Internet Explorer uses to support the
quick search aliases. To setup aliases, you would need to use
TweakUI.
- Environment Variables are supported and allow you to quickly access system paths. A list of the default environment variables can be found on Wikipedia.
MuvEnum Address Bar Options
To access the options, click the "gear" button on the address bar
or type "options" in the address bar.
- Show Go Button
When checked (default), shows the go arrow on the address bar.
- Show Options Button
When checked (default), shows the option "gear" on the address bar. When hidden, type "options" (without the quotes) in the address bar and hit enter to show the options window.
- Enable Inline Auto-Complete
Whereas normal auto-completion only shows you choices to select from based on what you've typed so far, inline auto-completion completes the most likely auto-completion result as you type. Example: I've visited www.muvenum.com already, I start to type www.mu and it completes it to www.muvenum.com. If this was disabled, I would have to hit the up or down arrow to select www.muvenum.com from the list of auto-completion choices as the address bar would only be showing www.mu.
- Show 'Not Found' Prompt: Search or Load As Website
When checked (default), will display a prompt asking if you want to search for
the current text using your default search engine or load the current text as a
website (http://currenttext/) if the current text does not load any program,
favorites, document, or other item in our auto-completion list.
When not checked, will
not show the prompt and will immediately take the currently selected action;
search or load as website.
- Check For Updates Every...
When checked (default), specifies the time period to check for updates to the MuvEnum Address Bar.
- Enable Global Hotkey

Nothing: Puts the focus to the address bar without showing any of the lists.
History List: Shows the list of addresses you've typed (history) that you normally see when clicking on the down arrow.
Auto-completion List: Shows the auto-completion list which contains favorites, bookmarks, history, desktop items, system items, and the local file system.
